Podcast Launch Tips:
A Guide

8 min read

So you’ve done all the planning, you’re well into production, and you’ve got yourself a great podcast. As you get ready to launch, here are 6 simple and effective actions you can implement to help promote the podcast and gain vital momentum.

Remember, building an audience can take time, so consistency is the key.

Let’s dive in.

1. Update your website.

Update your website to include a section for the podcast, where episodes and show notes can be added. This helps build authority and trust, and also serves as a clear hub for the podcast. The podcast page/section can also serve as a landing page for people who might discover your business via your podcast.

On this section of your website, you can embed audio and video players of each episode using the embed codes from your host or platforms like Spotify and Youtube.

2. Leverage your email list.

Your email list is a captive audience of subscribers that are interested in what you have to say, and are most likely to support your new podcast. Leverage this and notify them about the launch of the podcast, and then again when each episode is released. It keeps you front of mind and if done well can create a sense of anticipation around the podcast.

3. Get your social media in order.

Consider some or all of the following tactics to boost awareness and the presence of your podcast:

Create and post regular podcast-related content.

This could be design content or video content. Design content can include graphics that promote episode guests and topics, graphics that highlight a  powerful or impactful quote from an episode, or a concept or idea explained infographic-style.

Video content can include clips from episodes, or more DIY content such as behind-the-scenes glimpses of your podcast or business processes, or vlog-style content related to your business.

Research and use hashtags.

On relevant platforms, utilise hashtags to maximise reach and discoverability of your posts. A good strategy is to have a mix of broad, mid-range and niche hashtags to ensure that you reach relevant audiences, but also reach general social media audiences.

Be active and interact.

Comment on popular videos and posts in your space in an authentic fashion – not spammy. This can help bring attention to your own page and also help you be seen as an authority.

Consider paid advertising.

Paid advertising can be a leg up to help awareness of your new podcast. Consider allocating budget to a paid ad campaign, using some of your creative assets (such as podcast clips or designs). This can help put your podcast in front of thousands of eyes instantly. If you’re running the ads from your existing business page, you might be able to leverage and target your existing ads audience for an instant uplift.

4. Generate written articles.

Take the transcript of each episode – or even just the topic – and turn this into a written blog or article. This can be posted on your LinkedIn, website and any other text-based platforms. It’s a smart way to re-purpose your podcast content for non-podcast audiences.

5. Organise guest appearances - for yourself.

Create a mini promo tour. If you have anyone in your network who is currently producing a podcast – see if you can appear on theirs as a guest to talk about issues relevant to your expertise and podcast.  Ensure your new podcast is mentioned!

6. Partner with industry associations.

Approach relevant industry bodies and/or associations and ask if they would be willing to share your podcast content via their channels (such email lists, social media, etc.). They might see it as valuable and helpful for their audience.

Do all of these things and you’re off to a great start. Good luck with your podcasting journey, and remember – stay consistent!
